In the heart of the Friulian foothills lies Maniago , the city of knives . The tradition of this small reality began when, in 1453, Count Nicolò obtained permission from the Serenissima Republic of Venice to use the water of the Colvera stream to power mills and iron beaters, making Maniago a flourishing center for the processing of metals.

Today, after more than five centuries, that artisan tradition is still vivid. With the foundation of the Maniago Coltellinai Consortium in 1960, the aim was to strengthen and promote quality and innovation in the production of knives, combining ancient techniques with the most modern technologies and advanced materials such as carbon fibre.
Despite innovation, traditional materials rich in history and culture continue to be preferred for handles, such as horn bones, olive wood, briar and mother of pearl.
